Rakheeda Begum / Changing Lives Towards the Better
Rakheeda Begum is the widow of Gul Khan and resident of Chiran Bagh. Rakheeda’s husband Gul Khan lost his life in a road accident while traveling to Muzaffarabad three years back. Her husband was a general work laborer and the only bread winner of the family. Rakheeda is mother to five children and she is the only one to support her children. Her eldest son is mentally retarded because of the shock he got because of loosing his father in such a tragic manner.
Rakheeda states “we already were having tough times to have basic necessities of life. The school is supporting my children for free education, otherwise I can not think of educating them. Our home was badly damaged by the earthquake. For this reason, we shifted our residence to an adjacent shelter and after continuous efforts we managed at long last to build a mud house. We are in extreme poverty and I can not afford providing my children with two times meal on daily basis."
"I can see that things are now improving as Qatar Charity has provided us with a milking buffalo for fulfilling our nutritional needs and other needs. I have been rearing livestock but I lost it during the earthquake. I had not enough money to purchase another one. I am now able to fulfill my children nutritional needs especially their needs of milk. I sell around 3 liters of milk worth Rupees 150 daily which help me feed my children and get something i.e. clothes, shoes for my children. This assistance is timely and significant in changing our lives towards the better."
