Provision of Transitional Shelters to the Balochistan Earthquake Affectees Balochistan is one of the provinces of Pakistan which has been prone to disasters in the form of flash floods and earthquakes during the last few years. On October 29, 2008, a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.4 jolted the province of Balochistan and leveled many villages of Ziarat and Pishin Districts.
Small & Medium Enterprises Development
The October 2005 earthquake has claimed the lives of well above 80,000 people in the affected areas. Thousands of families were either left with no bread winner or permanent source of income. The very same happened to the groups having small-scale businesses as a source of their livelihoods. The earthquake has caused a big loss to the human and economic assets of the area.
Restocking of Livestock The principal focus of this project was re-stocking of the lost livestock among the vulnerable families in order to extend the first-hand support for the rehabilitation of the affected groups, especially women-headed households with the ultimate goal of relieving them from the depressive circumstances caused by the earthquake.Under this initiative, 100 earthquake affected vulnerable families belonging to Bagh District, AJK faced with the challenge of fulfilling their livelihood needs, were supported through provision of livestock.
Vocational Training & Skills Development Project
The October 2005 earthquake has badly affected the economic setup of the affected areas. Many people especially the youth were in a difficult situation and unable to cope up with the realities created by the earthquake. The economic activities have come to a standstill. The unemployment rates were on the rise. The socio-economic fabric has suffered great losses as people are not able to get jobs and practice their economic activities in order to restore their living conditions to the normal standards.
